Keep It Cleaner With Laura Henshaw

Today we welcome the gorgeous Laura Henshaw from Keep it Cleaner.

Laura is an Australian /Law Student/ Model who loves everything to do with health, fitness and overall wellness. 

Laura is a big believer in what you put in is what you get out, if you put junk into your body you will feel lethargic and have limited energy however if you eat whole, unprocessed nutrient rich foods you will have unlimited energy, feel great and have a strong immune system.

Tell us a little about your journey and who you are?

I am a health blogger, model and law student from Melbourne with a huge passion for helping women reach their health and wellness goals. I started my blog Food Fit and Repeat 2 years ago while I was modelling overseas as a hobby and I have been really lucky for it to have turned into my business. My best friend Stephanie Smith and I have just launched our website- Keep it Cleaner which is health and wellness platform. We wanted to create a place that anyone could log onto at anytime of the day or night for workout/recipe ideas and motivation to lead a healthy lifestyle. We have had such an incredible reaction so far and are so humbled by the support!

What is your health and wellness philosophy?

I am a huge believer in balance and moderation. Life is all about balance. It is essential to balance your work and social life and leave enough time to look after yourself. For me, nourishing my body with healthy whole foods and exercising is essential for me to be maintain my energy levels and maintain mental clarity. I try to eat well 80% of the time and let myself indulge when I feel like it. Being healthy isn’t about depriving yourself, it is all about balance.  

When it come to your health, what are your ‘non negotiables’?

For me my biggest non negotiates are my workouts. I workout 5-6 times per week for about an hour and this is my ‘me time.’ I would go crazy without it. 

You create some amazing recipes. What is your favourite go to recipe?

Aw thank you so much… Hmm it is so hard to choose just one! I would have to say my Banana Bread. It is SO easy and so good for you but also so delicious! The recipe is available in the Keep it Clean  ebook. 

You’re a believer in what you put into your body, you will get out, and I couldn’t agree more. What does a typical day look like on your plate?

 

Definitely! You would never expect your car to run on bad fuel…so why would your body.

My day on a plate generally looks like this:

Breakfast: 2 eggs with spinach/kale, ¼ of an avo and almonds OR a big green smoothie bowl 

Lunch: Lean protein and big leafy salad OR zucchini noodles 

Dinner: Stir fry with lots of veggies and chicken beef OR fish and steamed greens

I snack on fruit and veggie sticks throughout the day and will almost always have dark chocolate after dinner if I feel like something sweet with a big mug of peppermint tea. 

We believe that how you spend the first 80 minutes of your day sets up how the rest of your day will flow. Tell us about your ideal way to spend the first 80 minutes of your day?

Definitely running or at the gym and then eating a nourishing breakfast. It is my favourite way to start the day and leaves me full of energy to face the day ahead.

 

For all those out there that are wanting to get moving or haven’t quite found their fitness routine yet, what tips would you recommend?

My biggest advice (which I have to remind myself quite often) is to not expect to be motivated before every workout. If I only worked out when I was motivated to do so I would only workout 20% of the time. Your motivation will come back once you get into your workout. Look at your workouts like meetings and prioritise your health, you wouldn’t cancel on a client so why should you cancel on yourself?

What is the single best thing you believe someone should do to get their health and wellness journey started? 

Throw out all of the processed food in the house and replace it with healthy whole foods – processed food negatively affects our energy levels and how we feel and this affects our motivation to exercise. Once you get your diet right you will feel more motivated to be active and start your health journey.
