Today we welcome Cass Olholm Fit Nutrition to chat all things health and fitness.

When I think of inspirational people to bring onto our Inspo wall to inspire us all, this chick ticks all the boxes. She is a nutritionist, crossfitter, has a love for yoga and running and seriously knows a thing or two when it comes to creating amazing, nutritious meals.

Tell us a little about your journey and who you are?

I am a Nutritionist (B.HlthSc(Nut)) from Cairns, Australia who is passionate about educating, empowering and encouraging others to live a healthy, active lifestyle. 

I am fortunate enough to have been bought up in a family that strongly values health and fitness so I guess my love for a healthy, active lifestyle was seeded as a child. From there, my passion for what makes a healthy and well human body grew as my knowledge of health and nutrition grew. 

I LOVE crossfit, yoga and running and if I’m not doing that, you will often find me in the kitchen creating something nutritious and delicious!

I’m a big advocate for eating wholesome, nourishing foods from the earth that make you feel energised and alive. I love to share my knowledge and passion for health, food and exercise with the aim of empowering others with their own understanding of a health and active lifestyle.


What is your health and wellness philosophy?

Balance! It’s all about what you do MOST of the time. 

What are your ‘non negotiables’ when it comes to your own health? 

Listening to your body! Our bodies are always trying to talk to us; constantly sending us messages, warning signs and little nudges. The key is to listen to that feedback because your body knows exactly what it needs. It’s when we ignore these messages that we end up sore, exhausted, sick and/or injured.  

Through training your clients and having great success, what do you believe is the key ingredient when it comes to having someone having a successful exercise routine?

Having a plan is the key ingredient to success – in anything! At the beginning of each week, plan your workouts in your schedule for the next 7 days. It’s about making time not having time.

You have also studied Nutrition and create some amazing recipes. What is your favourite recipe to nourish your body and soul?

My favourite would have to be my Sweet Potato Chocolate Brownies. Warm out of the oven, these definitely nourish both the body and soul.



This is one of my favourite questions, because I think it shows that we are all different and there is no one size fits all approach when it comes to nutrition…. What does a typical day look like on your plate?

I’m a very big eater, eating at least 6 times per day and am very much so a creature of habit so my plate almost looks the same every day. My day usually begins with a BIG green smoothie that ticks all the nutrient boxes including protein, healthy fats, vitamins and minerals. Along with a black coffee. Mid morning I will usually have a green tea, a piece of fruit and a homemade snack of some sort such as a muesli bar or bliss ball. Lunch is usually tuna, rice and at least 3 cups of colourful salad. My mid afternoon snack usually looks like my mid morning snack. Dinner is usually salmon, greens and mashed sweet potato followed by 2-3 pieces of dark lindt chocolate and some strawberries. Delish!

I believe that how you spend the first 80 minutes of your day sets up how the rest of your day will flow. Tell us about your ideal way to spend the first 80 minutes of your day?

I’m an early riser, so I’m usually up by 5:30am. The first 80 minutes of my day either consists of a workout, a stretch, or a big nutritious breakfast followed by getting straight into my work. I find I’m most productive in the morning!

You believe in living a balanced active life and I couldn’t agree more. What can someone do to find this balance in their lives?

Instead of focusing on calories or on how you look in the mirror, focus on how your body FEELS. Everyone is unique therefore everyone’s version of balance will also be unique to his or her body. Focus on what foods, how much exercise, the type of exercise, and so on make YOU feel good.


What is the single best thing you believe someone should do to get their health and wellness journey started?

I’m a strong believer in the ‘add’ not ‘subtract’ approach. Instead of focusing on all the foods you cannot have and ‘taking away’ those foods from your every day diet, start by adding in more nutritious foods. Add in more greens, more healthy fats, a smoothie or two and soon you won’t have enough room for any of those not-so-healthy foods.
